How It All Started

Hope TGNC Latinx.jpg

Hope TGNC Latinx began activities in August 2018, following a visit to the Cibola County Correctional Center, located in New Mexico. During the visit, we realized the needs and challenges that our transgender sisters were facing in that place, where they were deprived of freedom without communication, proper food, primary medical care, or personal hygiene products.

That was the turning point that encouraged us to work for our Transgender, Gender Non-conforming, and LGBTQI+ community, coming from the Detention Centers for immigrants.

We decided to maintain contact with our sisters in the Cibola detention center through phone calls and letters, and also support them by sending pantry items and personal hygiene products, in partnership with other organizations.

Since then, we have been participating in marches, actions, and conferences, supporting various activities in New York City, Albany, and numerous locations throughout the United States, with the primary goal of helping our communities.

Finally, since July 12, 2024, Hope TGNC Latinx has become a legally recognized non-profit organization, under the 501(c)(3) category, enabling us to continue working from New York City.
